Border security

Red-cheeked and wooden Archie Andrews lookalike David Cameron stepped up to the plate to defend his chum Daisy May yesterday. She needs it. I was transfixed, just as she was, as it dawned on me that the Select Committee wasn’t homing in on the civil servant she was trying to hand the can to for extending her relaxation of controls too far, but on her for relaxing them at all in the first place. It’s not a matter of how many non-EEA people entered under the relaxed regime but how many EEA nationals did so. A good point. Can she tell us whether EEA documents are more frequently targetted by forgers and look-alikes than, say, Canadian, Australian or NZ ones? I think we should be told.
