It’s different

In Uncategorized on May 5, 2011 by grahamharrowell

Walking into Tesco I notice an appeal for shoppers to buy an extra item and drop it off in the trolley provided for a charity appeal.

I’ve not seen this before in UK. In France charities are often at the supermarket asking customers to buy an extra packet of pasta or tin of beans for the banque alimentaire or restos du coeur which offer food to disadvantaged members of the community. The French are very generous in this respect.

So, it’s come to England. Well, yes and no. It illustrates one of the main differences between the French and us. You might find it hard getting us to give donations to help poor people but in this case there’s no problem. The charity is the RSPCA and the beneficiaries are animals. No problem!
