Politics of Spite continued

In Uncategorized on December 14, 2010 by grahamharrowell

So the details of the cuts in council funds are out. Central government money goes and council tax can’t be raised.

Interestingly, it doesn’t hit everywhere in the same way. In North Yorkshire (or Hampshire, or Buckinghamshire) there are lots of well to do folk so not only are there fewer demands on local authority services but there are many more higher rate council tax payers so the effect of the cuts is much less marked than elsewhere.

In West and South Yorkshire it’s a very different story. More poorer people, lower council tax take, higher demands on services.

So what’s the difference. Turn to your election results map, my friend. The one you keep by the bed or fixed by a magnet to the fridge door. That’s right, the ones who get off lightly are coloured blue and the ones who are to suffer are red. Some people might think that it’s possible to buy votes in our great democracy. Shame on them!
