Commuter misery

In Uncategorized on November 26, 2010 by grahamharrowell

Whilst the press in the UK gears up for the first flakes of snow so that they can slag off the railways I’m reminded that the old “leaves on the line” stories are a thing of the past.

The received wisdom that in Britain we are far behind our more efficient foreign neighbours took a bit of a knock this week not only with the closure of some Scandinavian airports beacuse of snow but also with an article in the 20 Minutes freesheet in France.

The piece highlighted the efforts of a special SNCF team deployed in the greater Paris area to reduce delays and cancellations which occur every autumn as a result of loss of traction on slippery rails caused by … leaves on the line!
