Bread and Circuses

At a time when people are losing their jobs, those with jobs can’t get mortgages and property prices are falling, when the retirement age is being pushed back and back and gloom has descended on the populace I was a bit non-plussed to read that they’ve found the time to come up with an index of wellbeing to measure the state of the nation. Surely the result would be in negative double figures.

Having failed to work out the reasoning behind, yesterday’s announcement tripped the circuit that switched on the little light above my head. If you can’t do anything to sort out the problems give the plebs some free entertainment to take their minds off them.

So we can now look forward to the Queen’s Jubilee (hurrah!), a Royal Wedding (aaah!) and the Olympic Games (doh!) all in quick succession which should leave us all grinning inanely and ready to vote again glowing with a high well-being index factor.
